DESCRIPTION:\n \n \nWhat Every Estate and Financial Planning Professional Should KnowAbout Special Needs Planning\n \nThis program will discuss the tools we use to plan for access and continued eligibility to the means tested government benefits. Specifically, there will be a discussion of means tested government benefits and their importance, First Party Special Needs Trusts, Third Party Supplemental Needs Trusts, Pooled Trusts, and ABLE Accounts. We will discuss drafting for flexibility and recommendations to fiduciaries for managing these arrangements in a complex, strained and ever-changing service delivery system.\n \n \n \nTara Anne Pleat, Esq., CELA*, practices law in upstate New York in the Saratoga/Adirondack region. She practices in the areas of special needs estate planning and administration, traditional estate planning and administration, long-term care planning, and elder law.\n \nTara is a past Chair of the Elder Law and Special Needs Section of the New York State Bar Association. She is currently Treasurer of the Trusts and Estates Law Section.  She is a member of the Special Needs Alliance, where she is President-Elect  of the Board of Directors. She is also a Member of the Academy of Special Needs Planners and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of New York NAELA.
